One woman’s escape from human trafficking – Tuesday, April 3, 2012 2:01 a.m. – Las Vegas Sun

This is a truly inspiring story that appeared in the Las Vegas Sun, one of  our local dailies.

Lauren came under the sway of a charming man, who she thought loved her. She was very wrong. The sad fact is that he trafficked her as a prostitute and a sex slave. As Lauren puts it, he used her like “a human ATM machine.”

She was abused by him and arrested many times. Simply put, there seemed to but one destination for Lauren: the grave.

With the help of her youth advocate, she escaped that life. He took her to the library to study and she was able to get her GED from the College of Southern Nevada.

People tend to think of human trafficking as a third world problem, something that happens in Cambodia. But it happens right here in the US. As the article points out, the problem is even worse in the city that prides itself on glitz and glamour. Sin City, indeed.
